KRA Clarifies Reports Of Confiscating Ksh.300K Wedding Dress At JKIA Over Tax

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has come out to address reports that its customs officers confiscated a wedding dress belonging to a Kenyan lady who had arrived into the country with her foreign lover for their nuptials. According to the claims, the couple was forced to leave behind the dress with KRA officers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as they were informed that it had “commercial value” and they unable to pay the required tax. The taxman, in a statement released on Thursday evening, sought to clarify that the wedding dress was subject to duty as it was valued at USD2,000 (Ksh.301,700). KRA bid to block Sh4.5bn allocated to Nairobi County quashed

A Nairobi court has stopped Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) from blocking Sh4.5 billion allocated to Nairobi County in Tax Evasion row. This is after lawyer Cecil Miller filed an application at the High Court on behalf of the county seeking to quash the order that barred the release of funds. Miller had told the court that KRA enforced the illegal notices dated September 10, 2019 by recovering Sh2 billion, the county’s Revenue Fund Account without its knowledge and consent leaving it with no funds to pay its employees’ salaries and run other county responsibilities. KRA wants court to overturn Sh2.2Billion tax directions in HouseMart Company Limited for not paying Taxes

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has moved to court seeking  orders issued suspending decision to freeze Chinese firm HouseMart accounts over more Sh2.2 billion tax arrears set aside so that the funds can be freezed. The preservation notice was issued in respect with accounts from NIC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Bank of Africa. The agency wants court to overturn orders issued on 4th of October staying KRA decision dated 21st September, 2018.
