Kiambu: Teacher In Court For Allegedly Circulating KCPE Exam Papers

A Kiambu teacher who was arrested Thursday on allegations of circulating national examination papers has pleaded not guilty after he was arraigned in Nairobi on Monday. Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi, Nicholas Ngumbau was accused of opening 10 accounts on WhatsApp and Telegram, where he was reportedly selling KPCE examination papers at Ksh.1,500 and Ksh.2,000 for papers that allegedly came with a marking scheme. The court ordered Ngumbau to deposit a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 and provide one contact person or an alternative Ksh.200,000 bond with two sureties. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has allayed fears that there will be school fees increments for secondary schools. This follows reports indicating that there is a proposal to increase school fees for the year 2023/2024 which attracted censures from leaders. Dismissing the report on Monday, CS Machogu said that the school fees will remain the same until further notice. Amabuko Secondary School Students Hospitalised With Stomach Pains, Diarrhoea Now Stable

All 174 students from Amabuko Secondary School in Masaba, Kisii County, who had been admitted to various hospitals over food poisoning complications are in stable condition.   Masaba South sub-county Health director Dr. Evans Monda has confirmed that many of the students have been discharged with only a few remaining in hospital. Dr. Monda added that the cause of the complications has however not been established as medics are still collecting samples of the food the students ate for laboratory examination. Ministry Of Education Releases 2024 Schools’ Calendar

The Ministry of Education on Friday unveiled the 2024 calendar for pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools as well as teachers’ training colleges. The pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools will open for the first term on January 8, 2024 and close on April 5, 2024 after 13 weeks of learning. In between, however, they will have a three-day half term break from February 29 to March 3, before a three-week holiday at the end of the term from April 8-26. Term two will run for 14 weeks, commencing on April 29 and ending on August 2, with half term set for June 20-23. The learners will afterwards go on holiday for another three weeks beginning August 5-25.
