Exposed: House Help Who Stole Ksh.1M From Sick Employer In Eastleigh Arrested In Kericho

A house help who was arraigned for allegedly stealing Ksh.1 million from her employer in Eastleigh, Nairobi, has pleaded guilty to charges.

Appearing before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi on Tuesday, the accused Roseline Kahega was charged with stealing money contrary to section 268 (1) read with section 275 of the Penal Code, according to the Nation.

The court heard that Kahega, a part-time domestic worker who hails from Vihiga County stole Ksh.1,050,000 from her sick boss Libin Abdi Mohamed on October 13, 2023 after being contracted to clean her house.

Her boss said the money was meant for her surgical operation in India and that it had been donated by her family and friends through international money transfer platforms, after which she kept it in the house awaiting the travel date.

Ms. Mohammed realized that the funds were missing the next day after Kahega did not show up for work and when attempts to call her turned futile, since her phone was switched off.

She then reported the matter to California Police Station and an investigation was launched to nab the suspect.

Detectives would later reveal that Kahega was on transit to Vihiga after checking the PSV booking offices of companies operating the Nairobi-Vihiga route. 

They collaborated with sleuths at Kericho Police Station who intercepted the bus at and arrested Kahega on her way to Mbale town, as indicated on her bus ticket.

A quick search conducted on the suspect found a silver purse containing money, and a bracelet belonging to her boss was also recovered.

She was briefly held at the station before being transferred to Shauri Moyo in Nairobi on October 16.

The case will be heard on Wednesday when the prosecution will present its case against the accused.
