President Ruto Appoints MKU Founder Simon Gicharu, Former MP Naomi Shaban To State Jobs

President William Ruto has appointed Mount Kenya University (MKU) founder Simon Gicharu as Chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

Gicharu’s appointment, announced in a gazette notice dated October 12, takes effect immediately, consequently revoking the appointment of Prof. Elishiba Njambi Kimani.

He will hold the position for a period of three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (2) (a) of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint— SIMON GICHARU (DR.) to be Chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 13th October,” reads the Gazette Notice.

The Head of State has also appointed former Taita Taveta MP Naomi Shaban to be the chairperson of the Tobacco Control Board, revoking the appointment of Khama Rogo.

According to the gazette notice, Shaban will hold the position with effect from October 13, 2023, up to the July 12, 2025. 

Also handed State jobs is Job Chirchir who has been appointed to be the Chairperson of the Water Services Regulatory Board and Titus Kipkoech Korir as Chairperson of the Kenya Forest Service.

The two will hold their respective positions for a period of three years, with effect from the 13th October, 2023.
