A Person Shot Dead In Baringo Cattle Raid

Tension is high in Loruk area of Baringo North after one person was on Wednesday shot dead during a cattle raid.

The deceased, who was herding livestock, was ambushed by bandits and kidnapped before his body was later found in the bush with gunshot wounds on the left side of the chest.

Following the incident, many businesses in Loruk centre remained closed as locals expressed fear for their lives.

The killing comes after two people who were shot dead by suspected bandits two weeks ago at Ngaratuko area in the same sub-county were buried.

Religious leaders have since urged the locals not to retaliate so as to avoid further conflicts.

Loruk is a border centre of Baringo North and Tiaty where cases of banditry have been on the rise.

Locals are now calling for forceful disarming to avert further killings.

Baringo Police Commander Julius Kirangu confirmed the incident saying he has since deployed officers to restore calm in the area.
