How Linda Wambani Named New Safaricom Secretary After Kathryne Maundu Resigns

Safaricom Company Secretary Kathryne Maundu has stepped down after nearly seven years in office.

According to a statement by the Company’s Board Chairperson Adil Khawaja on Friday, Ms Maundu tendered her resignation effective on Saturday.

While lauding Ms Maundu for her dedication during her tenure, the Board said she helped the telecommunication company achieve milestones and earned the Board’s trust.

“Kathryn has served in the Board and its various committees for more than seven years. During this period, she has supported the Board in the implementation of its mandate in line with the laws and regulations in Kenya and the process has earned the Board’s trust and appreciation,” stated Khawaja.

“The Board takes this opportunity to thank Kathryne for her dedicated service, sound advice and commitment to Safaricom over the years, and wishes her the very best for the future.”

At the same time, the Board announced that Ms. Linda Mesa Wambani will take over from Maundu in an acting capacity beginning Sunday.

“The Board is also pleased to announce the appointment (subject to regulatory approval) of Ms. Linda Mesa Wambani as the acting Company Secretary of Safaricom PLC with effect from 1st October 2023,” read another section of the notice.

Prior to the appointment, Ms Linda was the company’s Senior Legal Counsel with a vast experience of more than 19 years.

“Linda is a qualified advocate with over 19 years’ experience, and is currently a Senior Legal Counsel at Safaricom PLC, where she provides legal and corporate governance support to Safaricom PLC, the M-PE SA Foundation and Safaricom’s investment vehicles into Ethiopia,” stated the Board.

She was a commercial and litigation lawyer at Demons Hamilton Morrison & Mathews before joining the telco giant.

Linda has studied Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from the United States International University (USIU) and a Master of Laws Degree in Commercial Law from the University of Nairobi.

She is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, the Women on Boards Network and the Law Society of Kenya.
